"Big Deal", was a television comedy/drama series produced by the BBC between 1984 and 1986.
Starring Ray Brooks and Sharon Duce, the series concentrated on the ups and downs of small time London gambler Robby Box (played by Brooks), and the effect that his poker addiction has on his long suffering wife (Duce) and family.
The title song for the show was written and performed by Bobby G of Bucks Fizz, which played to memorable closing titles depicting playing cards and banknotes being washed into a gutter by the rain.
Robbie Box was one of life’s good guys – but there was one problem. Robbie
had a gambling addiction. His life centred on a low-life circuit of pubs,
bookies and smoky dens and he was permanently riding the rollercoaster from
bankruptcy to wealth and back again. However, when it began to jeopardize his
relationship with his girlfriend, Jan, he was determined to give it all up –
until the next big game, all night poker session, race meeting or scam.
